Fall trends bring back bell sleeves and the 70s

By Ann Shelley

The stripes and whites get hung with plastic and pushed to the back of the closet to make room for the oversized turtlenecks and wool sweaters. Summer season quickly fades to fall. The leaves begin to drop as the summer styles price get marked down further. The new looks of fall begin to be established as some of the top brands come up with their new season lookbook. It becomes 50 shades of black, brown, mauve, gray and red among the color schemes. Here are the hots for the fall season!

1

Bell Sleeves or No Sleeves! Whenever I go to a store like Free People or Anthropologie I always wonder what new kind of style they will come out with. This summer I came by some bell sleeves with layered sleeves in crop tops and it is by far my favorite style carried into fall.

2

Hippie Pants with a Modern Flare! Remember the gaucho pants everyone wore in middle school or was that just me? Well now they are back but better than ever because they sell them at free people in all different colors and looks. They are even incredibly comfortable to wear, but are a jean material. The flare jean is really becoming popular this fall and is showing up everywhere, especially within the URBN brands.

Platform Is the Best Form With Fashion Sneakers. This is a shoutout to all the short girls because honestly I feel you. I’m short and I seriously love wearing the platform shoes in everyday activities. They are all seriously so cute, whether they be platform sandals, loafers, tennis shoes, flip flops, etc.

Scrunchies please! But honestly when ddi they ever go away? I got a scrunchie three years ago and I’ve never not used one since. Scrunchies are the easiest thing especially since they don’t hurt my wrist when I wear them throughout the day and don’t dent my hair. In this way, it has become popular at almost every shop I go into at the mall has a scrunchies section like at Urban Outfitters or Forever 21.

Deconstructed Classics Are Back! I noticed this first hand at Urban Outfitters this summer. They came out this past year with Urban Renewal, a brand that takes thrift store clothing and remakes it into styles for this season. It inspired a lot of other competitors to take on this modern re-imagination of thrift store clothing.Your Grandma’s Couch Florals – I recently just bought a pair of grandma’s couch floral flare pants with a  by Scotch and Soda. Designers are making dresses out of the vintage looking material for the fall season.

Pajama Pants are Everyday Pants. A huge trend I found this summer, was a lot of companies were starting to make loose fitting pants. These pants were said to be “everyday pants.” A lot of culotte pants made of polyester have been a huge hit so far this end of summer/beginning of fall. It will be interesting to see what material they switch it up to.  Along with these baggy pants, it is  filled with oversized blazers for not men but women. Long loose blazers have been a fashion item found within many major brands. The weirdest throwback trend of them all? Shoulder pads seem to make a slow return in many runway shows. Alexander Wang and Off-White were showing off styles very similar to this at the fall fashion week.

Red is the Color of Fall. Every big brand had red in their fashion show like TOD’S, Armani, Givenchy, Oscar de la Renta and Fenti. Red is the warmest color and can be considered a very dynamic color. The emotions associated with red are usually passion/love, however, anger can come out with it too. Overall, the color red seems to be able to increase a person’s heart rate and make them excited.

Western with a Modern Flare! This statement seems to be following around fashion as a whole this fall. Steel-toed boots, leather skirts, vests and pants are huge for fall collections. Cacti is all the rave and cowhide prints seem to fit right in with in in many brands like Calvin Klein, House of Holland and Balmain (as seen on Kim Kardashian).
