Going through sorority formal recruitment can be a stressful but exciting time. However, now that sorority recruitment is in the fall, it can be a little overwhelming. Don’t stress! Recruitment is such an exciting time, both for potential new members and the sisters of each sorority. Here are some recruitment tips and tricks that will help make your experience with recruitment a breeze.
- Remember that the girls in the sorority houses are more nervous than you!
Yes this is so cliché and not very believable, but it’s true! I have been on the other side and it is way more nerve-racking. The sorority women are trying to impress the potential new members while also being sociable and fun. They want you to love them just as much as you want them to love you! I once scared a PNM by telling her I killed my hamster when I was 5. Trust me, both sides are just as nervous and awkward!
- Wear something that you are comfortable in.
Obviously you are dressing to impress but it is more important to be comfortable in what you’re wearing. You won’t have to focus on your skirt being too short or your shirt being too tight. Instead you will be able to hone in on your conversation, which is more important than the material things. It is also important to show your unique style as much as possible. The sorority women want to know everything about you, so show them what you’re made of!
- Make a Pro vs Con list.
One of the most stressful things about the recruitment process is the decisions you are going to have to make. You may wonder if you’ll offend a girl you talked to or pick a house that may not feel the same way. However, none of these factors should matter since it is all about you! With that being said, there are other important factors to consider. In order to make things a little easier, make a pro vs. con list! This may seem silly but it will clear your head so that you can make the right decision. If I didn’t utilize this list, I don’t think I would have ever made a decision at all.
- Be yourself!
Even though you may think this is about impressing each sorority, the process of formal requirement is made to help you find your home away from home. If you aren’t yourself throughout this whole process, you may be placed in a sorority that isn’t best for you. These girls will become your friends, family, and home. You want to make sure they love you for you! And if someone doesn’t love you for all that you are, you don’t want them as your sisters anyway. Be yourself and show these women what you’re made of.
