Women’s Lacrosse team dominates the conference

The High Point University Women’s Lacrosse team is off to a great start in conference play. The ladies are now 5-0 in conference and continue to fight for first place going into the conference tournament. Seniors Kristina Renner and Allie Foard have been key players this season.
“We really wanted to make this year a positive year for the team,” Renner said. “We emphasized hard work and positivity and always supported each other. It’s really hard realizing that this is all coming to an end, but we are really looking forward to ending the year strong by getting back to the top of our conference and making an appearance in NCAA’s.”
Foard has 31 goals so far this season passing her 100 career goals mark. She has continued to be a major impact for the Panthers offense. Renner has put together a solid senior season. Collecting 33 draw controls, 28 groundballs and 17 caused turnovers, she continues to lead the team.
Three-time Big South Defensive Player of the Week, freshmen goalkeeper Molly Andrews has been an important key to the Panther’s defense. Over the last five conference games, she has averaged a 62 percent save percentage and has helped the defense pick up 28 groundballs outside the crease.
Continuing with conference play, the Panthers are looking to peak at the right time. The ladies had their final home game on April 23, honoring eight seniors.
“I’m extremely grateful for the relationships and bonds that I’ve made through this team,” Foard said. “Our chemistry on and off the field is unmatched. We push each other everyday and look forward to our hard work paying off. Senior year is bittersweet, but I’m glad I can walk away with 31 best friends.”
Heading into the home stretch of conference, they need to continue to play with high intensity defense and composed offense. One of the keys to the Panthers success is the depth of the bench. They have enough confidence in their young team that head coach Lyndsey Boswell has the opportunity to play players with fresh legs.
“It’s a great feeling to watch everyone produce on our roster,” Boswell said.
The ladies have two more conference games before heading into the tournament. They take on Longwood and Winthrop in the last games of the season. They hope they can redeem themselves in the tournament this time around after losing to Winthrop last year.
