High Point University has officially announced the ground breaking of the School of Health Sciences and School of Pharmacy.
The 220,000-square-foot complex will cost $88 million to build, but the addition of new equipment and technology brings the total to $120 million, the largest investment in HPU history.
It is estimated that these programs will provide 100 positions and attract nearly 700 new students, as well as raise HPU’s local annual impact to approximately $500 million.
These programs will not only be beneficial for the university but for the surrounding communities as well as a result of the increasing need of health care providers both locally and nationally.
In support of this, Nroth Carolina Governor Pat McCrory will be attending this ceremony as well.
The main donors of this project will be announced at the ceremony.
These facilities will house the most up to date technology and equipment to ensure the best possible learning environment, which will include a cadaver lab, biomedical research facilities, a medical simulation lab and more.
Once finished, HPU’s School of Pharmacy will be the only pharmacy school in the Triad and the fourth pharmacy school in North Carolina.
The addition of these facilities allows the university to offer new degrees, including a master’s degree in athletic training and a master’s degree in physician assistant studies, both of which were added this year.
Additionally, HPU plans to offer a doctoral degree in physical therapy by the year 2017 and a six-year Pharm. D. degree by 2016.
This ceremony takes place on Sept. 9 at 11:15 a.m. at the construction site behind the Wilson School of Commerce and is open to the public.
