Join the Civitan Club for volunteering oppertunities

High Point University offers a myriad amount of volunteering opportunities, one of which is the Civitan Club. The Civitan Club is committed to serving individual and community needs with a primary focus on aiding those with developmental disabilities. HPU students additionally take part in helping the homeless and finding ways to end world hunger. Research from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that approximately 815 million people or 10.7% of the world’s population deal with malnourishment. Given the severity and prevalence of world hunger, HPU students should take part in such a tremendous cause. For those who are interested, students are expected to get 10 hours of community service or pay a $20 due fee. Email or contact Daniel Hall at dhall@highpoint.edu for further information on the organization.
The group aims to meet every other Monday at six o’clock in the evening. Most especially, be sure to check out the organization on August 20th at the Activities Fair. While the club is on the smaller side, there has been a slight increase in new members. Volunteering for the Civitan Club is a great resume builder, and also is one of the numerous ways one can get involved on campus.
Later this month the Civitan Club is planning on hosting a series of events, such as a “Welcome Back” social/recruitment event. This event is a wonderful way to meet members of the organization and ask any specific questions. Based off of my personal experience, getting involved in a variety of clubs and organizations has allowed me to meet new people who share similar interests to me. Freshman year may seem intimidating at first, but after I joined organizations on campus, I was able to feel at home. And for those who are reading this, perhaps joining the Civitan Club is your personal way of finding “your home.”
Regarding upcoming activities, the Civitan Club is planning on having a High Point CROP Hunger Walk at the Wesley Memorial UMC on September 23rd at 10 o’clock in the morning. Then, on Sept. 27, there will be an Open Door Ministries Dinner Cooking and Serving at three o’clock in the afternoon. All upcoming events will be posted on the Civitan Club Facebook page for additional information. Students, and freshmen especially, should take advantage of these incredible opportunities to serve and help others. Alan Hsueh, a sophomore at HPU states, “I volunteer to help others because I don’t like seeing others in pain or misfortune. Sometimes I feel almost guilty when I see someone in a less fortunate situation than mine.” It is undoubtedly crucial to serve, and by joining the Civitan Club, you can achieve such.
