By Lauren Fitch

Season 3 of Outlander premiered last week, picking up where Season two left off with Jamie and Claire stuck in different centuries. Outlander is a fantastic show based off a great book series by Diana Gabaldon. If you haven’t seen the other three seasons or you just need a refresher, here’s what’s happened and where we can expect the show to go.

Season One began when Claire, on her second honeymoon with her husband Frank, accidentally jumped through time via Craig Na Dun. She lands square in the middle of a battle between the Scottish highlanders and the British Army. When the McKenzie clan comes to her rescue, she becomes a prisoner but also a medicine woman.

Soon Claire is told that she must marry a Highlander, or they must turn her over to the English. Jamie Fraser, a young highlander, volunteers to marry Claire. Soon, chaos erupts as Jonathan Randel, a British officer, attempts to carry out a personal vendetta on Fraser.

Jamie is eventually captured and almost executed for treason. With the help of his friends, Claire comes to the rescue, stopping the execution and the

Needless to say, eventually Jamie finds out that his wife is a time-travelling stranger from the twentieth century, but it doesn’t break them up. Instead, the two decide to use her knowledge of the impending Jacobite rebellion to try and change history.

Season two sees the couple travel to France to attempt and talk Bonnie Prince Charlie out of starring the Jacobite rebellion. Soon, Claire finds a medicine man who seems to be eerily conscious of her journey. Jamie is arrested for dueling with Jonathan Randel, and is locked in prison. Claire eventually suffers a miscarriage, and the Scotts prepare for the battle of Culloden.

Sure that the battle of Culloden will happen, a pregnant Claire decides to return to the twentieth century. Season three picks up with Jamie and Claire separated. Jamie is recovering from his psychological and physical wounds that resulted from the battle, and Claire is coping with being pregnant in the twentieth century.

Viewers can expect drama, turmoil and a steamy reunion this season as Claire embarks on a journey through medical school to become a surgeon in the 1950s and Jamie attempts to find his purpose without his friends and family that he lost. The season three premiere outlined the birth of Jamie and Claire’s daughter and Jamie’s experience on the battlefield.

The episode set a new high for viewership of the show. The Stars network has obviously found a cash cow with this romantic and dramatic epic about a love torn between cultures and time.
