On Nov. 5, Sigma Nu fraternity received their charter through their national organization. The brothers of Sigma Nu spent their weekend celebrating this anticipated occasion. “When we first started out almost a year and a half ago, our goal was to be the quickest Sigma Nu Colony to get chartered,” said Conor Wilkinson, Sigma Nu brother. “We were fortunate enough to accomplish that goal.”
To kick off the much-awaited event, Sigma Nu opened their fraternity house to welcome in brothers from their national organization, families and HPU staff on Nov. 4. The night allowed everyone to discuss philanthropy ideas, expectations and future goals of the soon-to-be official chapter.
“Overall, the night was filled with excitement and joy,” said Colton Lawn, Sigma Nu brother. “It was great to see family, friends and school faculty show up and support us on this start of an unforgettable journey of brotherhood.”
An initiation ceremony was held Sunday morning at The First United Methodist Church. The members became authorized brothers with one another.
The banquet was held at Sedgefield Country Club located in High Point. Families and friends joined the brothers to help them celebrate such a special occasion. The brothers could not have been more thrilled.
“All of our hard work and dedication paid off when we received our charter,” said Jack Rakoczy, Sigma Nu brother. “We hoped that every goal we had made since the start of Sigma Nu would eventually lead to this. All our hopes for this fraternity are becoming a reality.”
The brothers, their families and their dates celebrated the night with a catered four-course meal and socializing.
According to Sigma Nu brother Jack Boyd, this is just the start for the chapter and HPU can expect a lot from Sigma Nu in the coming years.
“Chartering weekend was an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Sigma Nu Colony at High Point University thus far,” Boyd said. “This is just the beginning. From here we hope to grow as a chapter and work towards becoming one of Sigma Nu’s best chapters.”
