High Point University alum, Cody Allen, made his debut at the World Series this year as a relief pitcher for the Cleveland Indians.
Allen was born in Orlando, Florida and went to Boone High School. During this time, he was selected for All-Conference all four years and was named the No. 1 underclassman in a USA showcase. He was the starting pitcher as a sophomore in the game for the state tile. He was also listed as the 25th best candidate in the country for recruitment.
Allen came to High Point in 2011 after playing for University of Central Florida for two seasons and St. Petersburg for one season. While at HPU, Allen was named second team All-Big South and Big South Pitcher of the Week after a tough win against Dayton. These impressive recognitions were just the start for him.
When the 2011 MLB draft came, the Cleveland Indians picked up Allen in the 26th round. He has been with the Indians for five years now, earning a name for himself with his impressive closing performances. In 317 games pitched in the MLB, he has accumulated 392 strikeouts and 17 wins. His average earned run average (ERA) is a 2.61 with a WHIP of 1.16. In just this year’s postseason, he delivered 24 strikeouts in 10 games. He delivered the final four outs in game four to earn Cleveland the win.
Allen has been a great success story for HPU and an integral part of the Indians success this year.
