The staff members at High Point University are what make this school what it is. Many of these individuals make a difference in ways students may not even be aware of, such as HPU alumna Jordan Coakley who currently works as the HPU social media specialist.

As a social media specialist Coakley manages social media channels including HPU’s Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and other social outlets.

Coakley graduated from HPU in 2014 with a B.A. in English writing. Originating from Leesburg, Virginia, a town just outside of Washington D.C., she has a deep appreciation for this school and its students.

“One of the first things I noticed about HPU, when I was a prospective student looking at colleges, was the people,” Coakley said. “Everyone is so engaging and so willing to pour into the success and the lives of the students.”

“I work with and for some pretty amazing people,” Coakley said. “I get to see the students come in as freshmen and really come into their own by the time they walk across the stage at graduation.”

When asked what her favorite memory is so far, Coakley replied, “I attended HPU so that’s a hard question. There are so many.”

However, having been at HPU through many changes, renovations and traditions, Coakley deemed move-in weekend and graduation as the best celebrations of the year.

Coakley is excited for the upcoming year and welcomes the class of 2020 to HPU’s campus. Given that the incoming freshman class this year is larger than it has ever been, Coakley offered her advice to incoming first-year students.

“Put yourself out there and introduce yourself to everyone,” Coakley said. “Take tons of pictures. Call your family. Participate in traditions; these are the things that help you both with each other and with HPU students and alumni across generations.”
