Wolf Blitzer named as 2017 commencement speaker

High Point University has officially announced that Wolf Blitzer will be the 2017 Commencement Speaker.

Blitzer is known as CNN’s lead political anchor and anchor of “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.”

Blitzer’s career with CNN started 23 years ago. During his time at CNN he has covered a wide range of stories. Blitzer is responsible for delivering in-depth reports regarding political, international and breaking news stories.

During the 2012 presidential election, Blitzer hosted three of CNN’s Republican debates. In addition, he anchored CNN’s coverage during the inaugurations of Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

Blitzer has interviewed several U.S. Presidents including Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

In addition to U.S. Presidents, Blitzer has also interview world leaders such as the Dali Lama, Margaret Thatcher and Nelson Mandela.

Blitzer has received many honors for his reporting including an Emmy in 2006 for the CNN team’s  live coverage on Election Day.

Outside of his TV career, Blitzer has authored two books: “Between Washington and Jerusalem: A Reporter’s Notebook” and “Territory of Lies.”

Many are excited for this prominent political anchor to speak at commencement. HPU President Dr. Nido Qubein recently said, “We are committed to providing our students with access to innovators. Wolf Blitzer has interviewed some of the most impactful people of our time and shed light on some of the most important stories. Our students will benefit tremendously from his wisdom and experience as one of the world’s most respected journalists.”

Commencement will be held May 6.
