Lilla Lorand, a senior from the small town of Ajka, Hungary, has been dreaming about going to High Point University since finding out about the university, explaining how she was amazed by how beautiful the campus was.

Lorand has never lived in the United States prior to coming to HPU. “I never even visited the country before I decided to start my college career here,” Lorand said. “I didn’t know what I was getting myself into.”

When asked what she misses the most, Lorand noted missing her family and her mom’s cooking in particular. “I cannot wait to go home for two weeks after graduation and eat everything that my mom cooks,” Lorand said.

Lorand has been involved in many activities at HPU during her time here. She is a member of the D1 Women’s Track and Field program, the AIGA club, International Student Club, Theta Nu, and is also a tutor for multiple art courses.

Lorand has really enjoyed her academic career at HPU, mentioning that the teachers motivate her to study.

“I really like that the teachers care about students and help them whenever they struggle with something,” Lorand said.

Her favorite class she’s taken so far is 3-dimensional design, and she said that all of her classes are really enjoyable because she has a fun major.

When she graduates in May 2016, she will have a degree in graphic design and digital imaging with a minor in mathematics. Lorand said, “I know [my major and minor] is an odd combination, but I like challenges.”
