The theater falls quiet as everyone’s eyes focus on the large screen ahead of them. It lights up with simple glimpses of scenery in a typical uneventful town while the names of the cast quickly flash in and out. In that moment my heart stops as I realize that I am about to watch a movie that received nothing but praise since its release date.

The beginning of the movie starts off with the date showing on the left bottom corner of the screen with “The Morning Of” underneath it. If you do not know what Gillian Flynn’s “Gone Girl” is about, it is a story of a seemingly perfect marriage falling apart in a matter of hours when darling wife Amy Dunne goes missing. Of course without any trace, all fingers point to her husband Nick Dunne, who is playing the concerned husband, but is he the true culprit?

While the case of Amy is unfolding, flashbacks that she has written about in her diary are sprinkled throughout the story not only to throw you off, but to skew what you thought you already knew.

By the middle of the movie, everyone in the theatre was on the edge of their seats, panting heavily and biting their nails to the nub. Without providing any spoilers as to how the entire mystery plays out, I will say that no one is who you think they are and that is what makes this story utterly brilliant.

I do not typically believe that a movie has perfect casting. There is always that one actor or actress that could have done better, but this movie had very ideal casting. Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike caught the characters of Nick and Amy exactly as Flynn had written it, but other actors such as Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry nailed their roles. Everyone, from the main characters down to the secondary characters, were utterly flawless. The entire cast brought this movie together from beginning to end to say the least.

It honestly started off as a slow-paced movie that follows the typical guidelines of modern day suspense, but once things kicked off, there was no stopping it. I was completely mind-blown and it was not even halfway through the movie. When the credits begin to roll, not one person moved or made a single noise. It was that good of a movie. I am an active movie-goer and this is the first movie in a very long time that has thoroughly surprised me and satisfied my need for an undoubtedly fantastic film.

No matter what your taste is in movies, this film will make you happy you took the time to watch it. It is a drama-filled mystery suspense that will have you inch closer to the edge of your seat every minute that passes by. It is one of those movies that even though you so badly have to go to the bathroom, you hold it because you know that if you leave for only a moment, you will have missed out.

Once you think you know what is going on, everything is spun around all over again and you are left trying to put pieces together, which makes it all so enthralling.

Not only did the movie deliver, but it left you wanting so much more, in the good way. The end was satisfying, yet all you could do was wonder, what was next? I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a thrilling, heart-racing adventure.
